    Question about COD4 gameplay

    Is it similar to BF2?

I really, I mean really, enjoy BF2, the driving of vehicles/acft, flag caps, medics and support.

Can you do all those things in COD4? I played the singleplayer demo, and if I had a better video card I would play it. I was wondering if you can fly in blackhawks etc? (I've seen art of UH60's, not sure if you can ride in them though) What about humvees? Can you drive tanks, what about attack helos?

finally, is there a multiplayer demo out there I can freely download, without an account?

You can't drive anything. I miss my tanks. Oh, you don't fly either, unless you jump into open missile silos or off tall rooftops. Flap hard.

In general though, if you can't play the single player very well, I think you'd better upgrade your video card before you try to go online. The high count servers are going to do a number on you.

There aren't any medics either; if you survive a hit, you regenerate health over time. Takes several seconds up to about 15 depending on how hard you were hit. You can play a "support" class, with some pretty sweet light machine guns. There isn't a PKM, but they're still pretty fun to use, especially with the right perks. Nothing like blasting guys on the other side of concrete walls.

Far as I know, there isn't a MP demo. Anyone?

All told, even without vehicles, most of us who liked the BF2/2142 set, TF2, and UT3 are liking COD4. It appeals to almost all of us.

      +1

Imagine BF2 with a speed boost and no ammo/health packs and that's pretty much it. Vehicles would ruin this game.

I like it better than BF2 except for the vehicles. I was one helluva chopper and jet pilot. Anyway, what strikes me about COD4 as being better is the fact that you can shoot someone and actually kill them in less than fifty shots. I hated that about BF2. A darn sniper rifle should kill like a sniper rifle... In BF2 it seemed like a full magazine to drop someone or them to even notice they were being hit. It may have changed in the last year or two that I've not played. I quit playing BF2 right when they made the choppers and jets way more destructible from ground fire and SAMS. It has been quite some time. I still have the game loaded with an outdated version so that I can get on and fly around the map every once in a while.

I never played the full version of BF2, but just knowing Rand was near a tank caused me to not buy that game anyhow. He's evil with just a handgun ! I am not a fan of any modern FPS, so I've been absent from both BF2 and 2142, so this was quite a stretch for me to give CoD4 a try, so I think you owe it to yourself to at least try it.
CoD4 for the Xbox just passed Halo 3 as the most frequently played game on XBL, so that clearly says something about its popularity.

"flap hard" that made me laugh Rand

there is no multiplayer demo. personally, I thought i was going to miss vehicles. it turns out i was wrong. I think they got most things right in this game.

I was a huge fan of BF2, and I still am. However, the action in this game is so intense and so fast paced that I don't find myself missing my J-10 or Cobra. It's worth it.

I WAS an armor whore in 2142. Admittedly. Proudly.
Give me a Nekomata and I was a happy dude.
Still played in APC's and some quality gunship time also.

So yes, I miss them alot.

COD4 is just a totally different type of game. MUCH faster, MUCH
more intense. I too thought that it wouldn't be fun without me being
in a +50 ton beast, but i changed my mind.

Plus, building a new computer helped me out ALOT.

When a new game like this comes out I usually build a pc for my gaming rig that fits just half way between the minimum requirements, and the recommended requirements. I own my own computer shop so it isn't hard to come up with parts, but I just don't see spending bookoo dollars for a rig that I'll wish I'd waited another week for something better. I have about 150 dollars in my current gaming rig and it tests out exactly half way between minimum req and recommended requirements. I play okay with it.

Don't get me wrong. If you have the extra ca$h to blow on a top-notch gaming rig, then hats off to you, but most people like that wind up spending hundreds of dollars a couple months down the road for newer parts... not me. I was going to go ahead and surpass the benchmark requirements for Crysis, but I didn't like the game that much. I don't care for those space-aged type games n stuff, hence one of the reasons I never got BF2142. I had halo for PC and ran my own server for a while and it stayed populated, but I took it down after 6 months or so.

Well, until COD4 came out, I was running and gunning with a 1.9ghz,
and x800 vid card. Let's just say I milked all the goody out of it. lolol
The only thing I ever upgraded was the Video card, and that was
because the old 9800 bit the dust.

Yep, I spent 2k on my new rig. Everything new and shiny. But it will be
2-3 more years before I attempt to upgrade again. I Hope.

I'm cheap, what can I say.
I COULD play 2142 and most everything else with my old rig, just had to
put up with lowered options, frame rate problems, and other similar
                      symptoms.

I'm with you on the "cheap" part, even moreso. If I had more time to game and played a lot of different games, I might spring for something in the 2000 dollar range, but between the lifestyle I choose and working 2 jobs, I don't have an abundance of gaming time, and occasionally I have friends over for a lan party, but thats about it. My buddy spent 2300 dollars on a rig with dual video and all the bells and whistles, but I still pwn him with my little 150 dollar rig and he can't stand it.

The rig I have now I got because someone went to Wally World and bought a new PC and it came with vista. They didn't like it so they wanted a different machine with XP on it. The guy is a pastor and didn't play games and such so I built him a quickie that far exceeded what he uses the machine for.. only about 3 days a month.. and he gave me the Compaq. I added 2 gigs of memory for 100 dollars, and poked in an ATI X1300 video card and it gets me in the game.

Did you ever play UT2k4 Onslaught on Cain's? COD4 is a great game but the intensity of ONS here was INSANE, you could regularly spawn, jump a ride, kill 3 people, get killed and respawn in 10 seconds.

Traditional shooters like UT may not be as realistic as cover-based shooters like COD4, but what they lack in realism they more than make up for in adrenaline!

You got that right. I LOVED UT 1999 and/or Game of the Year Edition. You wanna talk about FAST paced.. it was quite faster than UT2004 and COD4. The sniper maps are the best, and a lot slower paced.. which took a LOT of sneaking around and you might even hold a position for 5 minutes without seeing anything in a Giant Bedroom, Living room, bathroom, sometimes a Whole House upstairs and down, or amusement parks. The variety of custom maps along with music was wild and I love it. I ordered the game way after it was released, but a friend gave me a fully functional cracked version before my purchased game actually arrived. I sold the purchased version and got some of my money back. I don't know if any of you guys played it, but some may like it.

I'm still a huge fan of BF2, although I haven't played it in a long time now. COD4 is truly a different kind of animal with pacing that will make your head spin. It is such that I will likely stay at best, a mediocre skilled player (whereas I was a reasonably accomplished ground pounder in BF2).

That said, COD4 is a TONNE of fun in its own right. If you have a system that would likely make it playable, I would give it a try.
