2-3 shots and they are dead. High accuracy on both weapons.
Carbon actually likes the G3 for assault. M14 has 1/3rd more damage
per shot than the G3. So shoot them in the head.

Personally, I don't like how much recoil the M14 has. Sure, its more powerful than the G3, but it's far from a one-shot kill weapon even with stopping power. I'd much rather stay on target and deliver one or two more shots than have to rely on a weapon that dances wildly if I shoot more than two rounds in short succession.

That, and the ACOG is horrid....can't understand why people like using that accursed obscurer of peripheral vision :P

I admit, I've not had good success with the ACOG, but
Been killed plenty of times with people using it.

So I tend to use the Red dot myself, especially since I no longer am
the trailer on rushes. I'd rather be in front that tail end charlie.
Much better for the people that like to hang back.

When I've used the G3, I've nearly always died before I could get off
the 2nd or 3rd shot on 1v1's up close and personal.
I'm just not twitchy enough on the left mouse I suppose.

So I take those 2 and take my chances with single shot.

I prefer the M16, the 3 round burst delivers the most damage per trigger pull of all the ARs, and it's highly accurate too.

The G3 is particularly useful for long range, sniperish shots on unsuspecting guys, but sucks on 1v1. I've been playing a little sabotage and search and destroy to pick up the challenges, and find myself switching out of my G3 class because the low player counts make it suck even more. Give me an AK any day.

that's not completely true. over on the IW forum's there has been much discussion about rapid fire on the single shot weapons. most people are simply using the scroll wheel to fire. also, IW says they intended the scroll wheel to be bound as fire.

G3 is an ok gun. Good range and power. I have a build where I am carrying it around with Overkill and an Uzi to get the goodies on both weapons.

The M14 I really don't like at all. It's not only single shot but has a stupid amount of recoil. I at least cannot use that weapon at all and have completely given up on it.

In my opinion the 7.62mm NATO rifles should be one shot kill at the head or torse with wounding on legs and arms. If the maps were bigger and we were angaging targets at over 400m then the effect would be reduced but on these small maps 7.62 NATO rifles should be more deadly than they are now, they are already more or less balanced by recoil and slow fire rates.

Both the M14 and G3 are underpowered especially the G3 which should have approximately the same damage as the M14. I wouldnt mind the recoil if the damage from these weapons were more lethal.

The best long rifle as said by Karson is the M16 with the three round burst, that rifle is pretty good.

Not true, but they are indeed stronger. I've been shot in HC and lived a bunch of times.


As for the topic, the G3 seems easier to aim (for me) but has a way slower RoF

if you can click fast enough, the G3 is really really good. 3 shots and it will kill someone, and since it is super-accurate you have the benefit of the doubt if you aim for the head.
But the M14 isnt really that great. The only real way to kill people with it is to headshot or hit the enemy in the stomach and follow up with a shot to the chest when it recoils.
M16 is really the only weapon that is improved by the ACOG. I use the ACOG on my M16 and I can kill snipers before they blow my head off, mostly because they panic and hide when the first bullet hits them and the other two zip by them. Then I shoo through the wall where theyve hidden

I did not like the ACOG scope at all and tried it on several weapons, But did nothing for me. As Carbon said, Red dot for life! That works for me.

QFT, in this pic we have an HK416 on the right which is the same size and caliber as the M16, and on the left we have an HK417 which shoots 7.62 NATO, just LOOK at the size of that gun and its mag!
