I'm a little surprised -all- the sims expansions can nab that much money. I guess it's kind of brilliant, really. I mean, people invest a lot of time in the game, and if the expansion offers a lot of new content, it's probably worth the $$.
+1. I was surprised the sims were actually up there, but it was a fun game, I just didn't know that many people liked it, I've never seen an advertisement for it except for the one with pets (which was my least favorite, I don't mind puppies but I'd like to have it mature and grow up)
However I had a lot of fun with it. I liked making magic. Creating myself and being a powerful wizard without it being a fantasy RPG was really fun
Honestly, I've never seen the appeal of the Sims. I've watched people play it several times, and everytime I keep wondering "ok, so you can customize stuff, woohoo, now what?
I dunno. I generally enjoy games that allow me to do things that aren't possible in normal everyday life. If I wanted to simulate real life, I'd just go live mine, not simulate someone elses

To each his own I guess
I think girls are really into it, I was at a restaurant recently doing some work over lunch and a table of about a dozen average looking (i.e. non-geeky) high school girls were all going on and on about their creations.
Girls in general are a less evolved species of gamer than guys, but honestly whatever gets them playing is thumbs up from me!

I tried one of them briefly, and while the building tools were mildly entertaining, I don't have any aspirations to be an architect or a landscaper, so my interest quickly faded.
I just didn't understand the appeal of the actual gameplay at all. Well, for the one day I played it, I did manage to make sure my Sim was making whoopie with some neighborhood girl every time my fiance walked into the room, and that it was a different girl every time. The look on her face was pretty entertaining.
If I can't shoot something or blow something up, I'm not interested I never played WOW because I didn't like the "pay for the game but you can't play it unless you pay more" idea. If your going to charge for the game, you should be able to at least play it. If you want to charge a monthly fee, then don't charge for the game.
Yeah, I think WoW should have a free version. That's what JAGeX LTD did with their game... sadly that games really boring nowadays and no one plays it like WoW

You must've missed my whole speal about being addicted for 6 years... haha. But yea, it WAS a good game, I've still followed the updates briefly, and well besides it being over run by immature Miniclip kids, dumbing it down, taking challenges out of it, and pretty much screwing it over big time with their latest big updates, It's pretty much on a downward spiral.
It was a good game. It started going downhill when they made the old version pay-to-play only, and if you wanted to play, you had to make sure you logged into your account within a 4 month time-span. If you didnt you couldnt use it anymore. That's where they went wrong. With numerous other things like crappy customer support and advertising to the wrong userbase.
Oh well, I'm way off topic and that's a completely differnt story.
+1. Though you should've seen what kind of destruction this then-10-year-old could summon upon a city. I was never any good at it.
I never would have imagined Sims was so popular! I mean, it appeals to a different sort of gamer, but I never see any real news or coverage on the games. It's always the big name titles...many of which didn't even make the list. (though that doesn't make them any less fun )
