How Good is COD 4?

Why?

Because I'm considering getting it, but on the ropes about it. Is this game worth it? Is it like BF series? Is it worth it?

This game is far from BF, in my opinion...

Fun, but not the same style as BF. There is a focus on teamwork, to an extent, but it's more about formation, not blocking one another, etc. In Deathmatch, the battle moves around a lot, so you can't really ever just stay put in one spot. Having a group of people moving well together can be beneficial, but tough to do, since VOIP isn't as common as it was in BF2.

In HQ, it can be a little different. With everyone going for a specific spot on the map, team mates are more inclined to buddy up and rely on each other more, especially when it comes to capping. Having everyone watch different entrances adds to your life span.

In all, CoD4 puts more of a focus on putting bullets down range, rather than squad-like tactics. Trust me, you'll still benefit from teamwork, overall structure, and keeping a team-oriented mindset, but not as much as BF2.

(all personal opinion, though...CoD4 is a fun shooter, but definitely a change for those who have been used to playing the BF series for so long.)

CoD4 is definitely not like the BF series. Like was mentioned, there is virtually no teamwork in comparison. Not only that, but the whole feel of the weapons is far different than the BF series as well. The fact that you have way less health and you heal fairly quickly may be a large change for BF players as well. The biggest thing to get used to in my opinion is dying A LOT. The fact that you have less health, coupled with no respawn time and no revives makes for a death-filled gaming experience.

Would I suggest that you buy this game? Yes, definitely. The selection of weapons, perks, and types of gameplay makes this well worth the money you spend on it.

At it's peak, COD4 rivals CounterStrike Source for popularity, which is mind-boggling. Of course, the Console version sold several MILLION copies so I'm sure had this been a PC-only title, you'd see greater than CS numbers for this game.

I'd say if you like fast-paced, frenetic action, this game fits the bill nicely

I came from the UT world and I always thought the BF games were like molasses in comparison; in the same time it would take you to spawn, run to the front line, get blasted by a tank and respawn in BF2, you could spawn, hop in a vehicle, kill 3 guys, start building a node, shoot down a Raptor, get killed, respawn and be back at the same node in UT2k4!

COD4 is much faster paced than the BF games although it lacks the variety of the UT or even BF series re weapons, vehicles, game types etc., but as Cain said it's what everyone's playing right now which is pretty compelling for me.

It isn't just for the super duper fast twitch young guys.
There is a style for everyone on most maps.
I'm an old and slow player, and still can do decent most of the time.

Yes, I miss my tank, and the squad play from BF2/2142.
But it is a very fast paced game, and will get your adrenaline hopping.

It's worth it, definately a solid PC game which is rare these days. I think the fact it's actually a really good game right out of the box lends to it's success.

BF games definately have more structure and teamwork imho. The game has great voip but its useless because the game play is so fast. Your usually dead by the time someone warns you about something.

Its like:

"Devilguns, look ou" blam I'm dead.
"Don't go in th" boom I'm dead.

The only gripes I really have about this game is the same as the BF series. I hate games that have leveling and weapon unlocks. Saving grace you level up fast. In a month or two you can max out. It has stupid point rewards for like killing people while in mid air, whatever. They definately need some new maps soon though.

better than Goldeneye? In my opinion, nothing will ever beat goldeneye, it was just too amazing. Its just like how no RPG will ever beat FF7 in my opinion (although some will argue that 12 is better without having played 7)
