I imagine the number of tactical situations where an AUTOMATIC SHOTGUN are called for are EXTEMELY limited; wouldn't a grenade be just as effective and a lot smaller/cheaper for troops to carry?Comment

When I was a kid, my dad worked for a police dept and I remember going to the shooting range with him and few cops one day(late 60s early 70s). One of them had a new "riot gun". From what I remember it looked like a machine gun but fired 12 ga shotty shells...think it held only 5-10 rounds and was a semi. The guy who had it loved it because "he liked how big the eyes got on a punks face when he pointed a machine gun at him with the barrel the size of a shotgun".Comment
