I said hell and got told by someone, I donno who, you all sorta sound alike, to watch my language.


Is Hell considered a cuss word? I've seen some CLR's say damn and hell before and they've been here longer than most people...

So uhh...

Should I "watch my language" and never say hell again?

The only "cuss" words I use until told to stop will be "hell", "crap", "damn", and "piss(ed)" but never in any angry tone. Usually they're directed back at myself, or to someone I know pretty well in the game.

I draw the line there. Anything above those, I refrain from.

I always wondered about language policies on servers where you play games that depict people dying violent deaths thousands of times a day.

Just because those are the rules on TV doesn't mean they make sense, or that they should apply to video games, however it's easy to keep one's cussing to one's self, just keep your thumb off that transmit button!

My rules in the home for my family, such as the use of the word 'hell','damn, and other words, are my own PERSONAL situation.

Good manners suggests that you dont confuse family values with public morality. The two are NOT interchangable and it should be observed as such by all.

What is good for the public, may not be okay in my house, but in knowing that the public does not know my house (in most cases) then I have no right to expect you to meet my standards.

Man, have you ever watched NYPD Blue or a show like that? The FCC allows pretty much anything these days, does family dinner at your house sound like basic training in Full Metal Jacket? j/k

I curse a blue streak when playing online shooters (COD4 especially since so many of my deaths are from seemingly random causes) but I don't share that with the rest of the server because there's no need to. Let's face it, no one wants to hear every scrub on the server shout "DARN IT" into the mic every time they get killed, even if the language is G-rated!

Fortunately the action is so furious in COD4 that I hardly ever run into chattybitches who would rather talk/type than play.

COD4 is a HUGE change of pace compared to 2142 as far as
VOIP goes. We talked constantly in 2142 in squads.
NOW? I rarely hear anyone else but Me talking.

Cain, Limey, Blackarrow, etc.., all chat and like me try to either warn
or try to get people to join in to exploit a section or breakout area.


I see more typed messages than VOIP by far, and usually that is where
people sometimes go over the line. After all, we can take an SS of
someone that is going a tad overboard.
We are the gentler, kinder type of admins compared to other servers,
so we try to keep it civil and fun.

My personal house rules can't be applied to ingame. My 12yr old
will NOT get away with using 4 letter words, but that doesn't translate
well to COD4 and expectations there.

If someone takes the time to type in a message, they are usually leaving
themselves as a sitting duck for killin.

I asked my VP if Hell was a bad word where he comes from-

He looks at me all coky-eyed like Popeye and says:

"What the hell did you jus say to me boy?"


Evidently, in Arkansas, Hell is more than a bad word, its like a challenge most closely associated with the honor of your grandmother.....
