Window Mode

Does anyone here run COD4 in window mode? What I am wondering is if you run in window mode do you have any issues like more glitches, stutters and such?

I run all my games in window mode except for COD4 and I am getting ready to try that and see how it goes. Finally figured out the console commands and vid_restart..doh! I'm such a noob to this game

I don't think you'll like it as your desktop will not resize in window mode. I run my desktop at 1280 x 1024, and I run the game at 800x600, so you can imagine what kind of extra work the pc will have to do to compensate for running in a window with two different resolutions. If you've ever noticed when you open the game your desktop resizes to the game resolution... hit control-alt-del while in game and then you'll see it...lol. It doesn't run that much worse, but it is definitely harder to see.

Yeah I just saw that. I got the window size I wanted but the game is hard enough on my PC without adding extra overhead. I run the game at 1024x768 full screen and my desktop at 1280x1024. I may try to go 800x600 full screen to see if that helps with the overhead of the game.

in the case of using a LCD you'd want to use the native resolution of your monitor.

Yea i have a 22in widescreen LCD so do i need to change the settings?

I turned on FPS to see what I was getting at 1024x768 and 800x600. The 1024 gave me 40 fps and the 800 gave me 91 fps. Window mode just isn't going to work at all. Good excuse to get another monitor so I have two.

I am running a Pentium 4 3.2GHz, 2 GB of memory, G-force 6800 video card and I use the Razer Copperhead mouse and Tarantula keyboard. I have one monitor and it is a Samsung SyncMaster 930e. I haven't changed anything in the cfg file and only made a few adjustments with the in game options. The only problem I still have at 800x600 is if I turn and there is some activity in that area, it's like the game has to catch up and it looks like it hangs for less than 1/2 second then it is fine. I guess I need to do some more reading about making some changes to the cfg file to see if I can get better performance. I can probably make some more changes with my Nvidia settings for the card. I saw it has a COD profile but no COD4 so I guess I need to tweak it myself and create my own.
