Good choice. I spent my time there and did 10 years. I regret not a moment of it and have what are probably the best memories of my life from those years. The college while in the Corps and the GI bill getting out didn't hurt either
Aquataine - have a great trip and be careful about mentioning how limp your wrist is in San Fran
You know- low hanging fruit like that is just too easy for people who've never been there to grab.
More than 40% of the population is Asian American.
You have to drive out of your way to get to the Rainbow district and even then its just a few blocks- and folks- a San Fran block is VERY short in comparison to an Atlanta or Chicago block.
In Fact, Houston and Atlanta are places where you would find more people participating in this topic than San Francisco. The only reason it has the "tag" is because it was the place where people were loudest about their movement. Other than that- its an almost insignificant part of the city's identity for those who have lived and worked there.
I worked there for 10 years and I have to be honest, I rarely ever saw half the things that get mentioned about that city, and I worked in nearly all the districts.

what does that have to do with any thing?
The net is that I think San Francisco could be known for many other things rather than such a minor thing.
To dumb it down for everyone who is thinking about making themselves offended- it's no different than most cities, and focusing on that one little teensie thing is stupid.
