    New PC

After 17 hours on various help desks and 3 vista re-installs I finally gave up on trying to get my wireless connection on my gaming pc and just ran a good old fashion cat 5 cable to it. After playing for about an hour I can honestly say that COD is soooooooooooooo much funner on a better pc. I know nobody has piles of extra money laying around but if you wanna get the most out of this game really try to get up to an 8800 gt if you can and a couple g of ram. It runs so much smoother and the visual detail is so much better than my 7500 lt it's like playing a whole new game for me. Makes me wanna load up 2142 with everything maxed to see what I was missing there too. BTW, the 8800 gt can be had for about $250. Probably less if ya shop around.

PS, you will receive no rebates or discounts for reading through this in game advertising. (Learned that from 2142 also)

What CPU did you pair it with? I bet 2142 will still run like a 3 legged horse.

9600GT for $169 is the best deal for a card that I've found, and at that price point it is quite an attractive alternative to the 8800GT. It really depends on your monitor resolution, but the 9600GT (even moreso the GT OC version) is shaping up to be a very good card for any game at lower resolutions.

I'm just not an eye candy nut, altho I have the hardware to run it flat out, but I prefer to spend my time looking for heads popping up over walls than to admire how glossy a gold plated shotty looks.

I have an 8500 GT that runs the game pretty well. it was 130 when I bought it last year, and I think it's down to like 60 bucks or something.

I'm working on saving up for a better card, but I will not pay over 300 bucks for it, no matter how nice it looks :P i'm too much of a cheapskate.

Luckily, you no longer HAVE to pay over $300 to get kick arse performance. If you look at the Radeon HD3850/3870s and the GeForce 9600GT that WalkinTarget mentioned, you can get a 2-3X increase in performance over your current card for less than $200. For a little more, you can get the 8800GT, which is currently the performance king for cards costing less than a fortune (can be had for $220-240).

Here's my best advice....don't settle. If you don't have the cash now, don't go out and buy something that seems "good enough". A good card will last much longer performance-wise and ultimately be cheaper than just buying a series of budget cards.

Sorry for the double but that line about not settling is spot on. Always get the best you can afford, especially in electronics and rum.

Not trying to be a smart a$$ or anything, but shouldn't this thread be in the Computer Lab section?

yeah, I'm probably gonna end up with an 8800GT or somethin, since it's less than 300. Just that when i went shopping for my other one, I had just enough to get that 8500, and it was before I started gaming on my PC. I just know I will never pay 700 bucks for a card like that 8800 Ultra or whatever when it was new.

In all honesty, probably yes. I posted over here though because my enjoyment of the game went up so much I wanted to post in a more commonly viewed section where I could get the word to more people. For me a great game got so much better it really deserves a little more publicity. If it gets moved then that's fine.

I have had an 8800gtx for over a year now and you can play the singleplayer on all maxed settings and it will run fine, but you have to have them at half that in multiplayer....sux

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
