Looping issues with mods

Has anyone run into looping issues trying to download maps on mod servers? I purchased my game from Steam which was my first mistake it seems cause only Steam users seem to have this problem. The download starts and the .iwd file comes in fine. When the download starts on the .ff file I get stuck in a loop. My screen goes to Setting Up Game then flashes back and starts downloading the .ff file again then flashes back to Setting Up Game and this goes on until I kill COD4 with the Task Manager. I have removed every .iwd file that did not come with the game and this still happens. All of my .iwd files are dated 2/9 which is when I purchased the game. One of the maps was mp_matmata and mp_heavensource.

Also when I hit the mod server all of my saved classes were gone. I went back into the regular COD and my level is still there but my gun classes were empty.

Cain's server was full so I ventured out and it seems that my wonderful Steam version of this game does not like mods for COD4. If anyone is using the Steam version...help...

There's a reason they named it "Steam" because you'll sure get that way when you try to do anything from basic installation all the way to modding.

Yeah for sure. I must say this is the last game I will purchase through Steam. From now on I buy the box.

Box good. I still have a hard time dealing with the fact I need an internet connection to play single player games like Half Life and Portal even though I didn't download the games.

I've tried several servers and I get the same problem. I've deleted all the new mods and maps and still the same problem. I contacted Steam and they said it wasn't their problem contact Activision. They said it wasn't their problem contact the mod author. I am liking this game less and less....

Looks like a reinstall is needed.

Did the reinstall and verified files. Still having the same problem. I give up.

You might need to contact activision for help with removing some registry entries.

Either that or reinstall windows.

Well the stars and moons have come into alignment. It's working. After installs and verify cache life is now grand. Steam did download something, not sure what that I didn't seem to have before. Note to self: buy box copies only so you know all the files are there.

Save yourself the BS and go drop the 39.95 on the box retail game from Wal-Mart.

I never have problems with Steam. One nice thing is if I am at someone else's house I can dl steam and play. No CDs to carry around.
