    Frame Rate issue

I have a issue with my frame rate, before when I had 8800 gts 640 OC, my framerate was starting from 60-70 if I would look in the sky but would drop down around 30-40 during intense battle, and running etc ..
now I changed my card and put a GX2 9800 and still have same issue, on some maps, it starts from 100 but drops at around 45, I don't believe its normal since some guys report that they get always above 100,
my hardware is good, ASUS crosshair, and have 4 gb ram,
anyone have idea what can I do to fix the frame rate issue?or its normal to have 30 fps durinng fight and higher otherwise, (PS. I have not got above 100 yet)

Try removing some xtras in ur video options...just play around with the settings till u find a rate u like

What resolution are you running at? Have you tried a different driver? That card should handle pretty much anything with ease. It could also be that your hitting performance holes. There are a few dotted around certain maps where your FPS will decrease for now apparent reason.

Something weird was happening on COD4 last night. I have another thread mentioning my hot PCB video card but that problem went away. Strange thing is, I never would get more than 45-55 FPS while playing COD4 but last night the card was cool, and I was getting 95 FPS... strange.

I get 90-105 fps pretty much ever where.. when shooting full auto while looking at a smoke screen for example it will drop to about 55-60.

There is also a cap on FPS, which you can change but it will effect your GPU's temp about 5-10C difference depending on if u have the cap set to high. With the cap set high, I can look up at the sky and see like 400-500fps lol.

The command is /com_maxfps by default I believe its 85, but it will jump up to 91 from there with np but no higher. you can set it to like 100, 200, 300 or w/e. But it won't increase you FPS.. its just the cap.

Also try /cg_Fov 80 as it increases FOV which will give you about 5fps maybe 10fps more. The reason is, it effects textures and geometry. Have you ever noticed when you go close, or go away from a object it changes shape? (other players, and there guns they hold for example). This is to help keep FPS up with having to have everything close to maxed out. It prolly Would help with any settings.

Also.. I noticed with my CRT monitor I found out the max hertz of 75, it can go up to via a smaller res at that hertz. This will also increase FPS.

In my case my max res is 1280x1024 @ 60Hertz. It also supports 75 Hertz at 1024x768. Its not the max res the monitor can go to.. but it will increase your FPS and possibly score, and it might even play alittle better.

My video card is pretty much set on default / automatic atm.

Cod4 settings are pretty much all off, or automatic/default. dynamic lighting low, water detail normal, model detail normal, ragdoll on, and bullet impacts on. Textures settings are all on automatic.

the fps cap is pretty useful if its causing problems, ex:you keep bouncing between 50-100 fps, its gonna be harder to play... if you set your cap at whatever your average framerate is, play will be much smoother. i keep mine set as low as pb allows (yes, pb will give you a 0min kick for fps below 43), my outdated hardware can still get me 100fps, but it tends to bounce between 35-80. obviously this would get me killed more often than my poor skillz would otherwise.
to set the cap, type the following into console via "~"key :" /com_maxfps 60" the "60" can be whatever value you decide on.

these are some FPS tweaks that I use. You can either alter your config_mp.cfg (in your profile directory), or enter these commands from the console. If you use the console, it will tell you what the current setting is before you actually make any changes. Bring down the console and type in

              /seta cg_fov

and on the line below the console it will show you what it currently is. To change it, type in

              /seta cg_fov 80 (recommended setting)

              The other recommendations are:

              com_maxfps 125
              snaps 30
              cl_maxpackets 100
              cl_packetdup 2
              rate 25000
              sm_enable 0

              cg_brass 0
              cg_blood 0
              r_cachemodellighting 1
              r_cachesmodellighting 1
              r_drawsun 0

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
