My COD4 broken

I was playing at lunch time and the game crashed.

I can't get to run anymore.

When I start it, it says that the game had crashed and wants to start in Safe Mode. When it does it pops up a message that says

"Couldn't load image '~weapon_g36_scope_spec-r30g30~44839f6a'"

I got COD4 through Steam so I thought I would just remove it and reinstall, but I'm wondering if there are some files I should save before hand?

Thanks, I saved my player profile, and had Steam reinstall the game. All is fine now.

I had that happen to me before i upgraded my system and i think the fix was to turn down some of the graphics settings down. It only happened to me in single player mode though.
