More than most people make in a year every month. Cain is very fortunate to have access to the connection that he does for us to play.

dedicated just means that the server is also not used for a player.

To host a dedicated server all you have to do is set one up. What limits you is the bandwidth. A quick google shows something along this lines

768k upload: 10 players

So for a 50 person server your going to need close to a 4 MB a sec for both up and download. If you had Fios maybe. Your best bet is a short haul T1 to a local ISP. Thats in the hundreds of dollars a month

+1 and a T3 connection can run you on up there in the neighborhood of $75,000 a month. I ran a T1 for quite a while with a dedicated game server and it wasn't nearly enough. One turned into two and the possibilities of starting your own ISP come into reality. I got out of it all while I could. I was just before starting my own hosting and it was not something I was ready for.

and if you are going to host a server, might do research on settings and such for best performance. As hosting an another server means you are now a competitor of Cain's, I'm not sure how the boss man would be willing to share his secret formula.

I don't want to host a server, A member of an old clan I used to be affilated with wants to host one, and is such a newb at setting up a server, and it so happens I am too.
