No vehicles, just a lot of different weapons. If you've played any of the previous Call of Duty games, then you will feel right at home with CoD4. The combat is obviously based on modern day weapons, with shotguns, assault rifles, SMGs and sniper rifles available based on your playstyle.
You will be eaten alive starting out, up until about level 20 when you can unlock some of the 'perks' that come with constant playing. Perks allow you to select your loadout, such as Stopping Power, Deep Impact or Sleight of Hand among the many selectable perks. Again, you will need to rank up to select them, and since everybody is capped at level 55, it will take about 3+ months of play to get to that level.
Each map is also tailored to certain weapons, so you won't do well using a sniper rifle on a tight bombed out city map. Start off with an MP5 and rank it up to red dot, a leveled up sight that offers a red dot that you can use to pinpoint your fire. And use your grenades to clear out a nest of baddies rather than go in firing first.
Expect to spawn frequently and seemingly endlessly. Nobody who rambo's survives more than a minute, unless they really know how to play andare perked up.
Oh if a man tried to take his time on Earth and prove before he died what one man's life could be worth, well I wonder what would happen to this world ? - Harry Chapin
First and foremost! Welcome back and you chose a great game to come back for. Remember you can level up fast if you go for your challenges. I hit 55 really quick. Only took me a week and a half b/c back then I played non stop and aimed strictly for every challenge. Now I have all the gold guns, and all challenges completed! Good luck and watch out for a few players. Oh another tip...Keep an eye out on your kill streak. Airstrikes are awesome!

It's Quake with AKs and M4s. No one uses team chat because no one is alive long enough for it to be any good. There isn't really much strategy to the game other than kill as many people you can as quickly as you can. The person you kill can spawn in right behind you and kill you back.
I'm actually getting bored of it to be honest. I really miss the team work of squads ala BF2 of BF2142. Or maybe it's just I haven't been killed by Carbon in like 6 months....
There IS some teamwork being done, but not to any significant degree. Once you die and respawn, you could be anywhere on the map, including right amongst a group of enemy soldiers. I often follow someone in rushes, and have been followed also. Makes for a kind of teamwork aspect.
Have you ever thought of running it with lower player counts? I play it on 360, where it's capped at either 12 or 16 players (haven't played for awhile, can't remember), but it's a completely different game and there can be quite a bit of strategy involved (of course it all depends on who is playing).
I shudder to think what airstrikes and helis must be like on the player count you run.

They get pretty nasty on Vacant.
Anyway, its a good game. play single for a while, then multiply the difficulty by 100 and thats what multiplayer is like. The game likes to cram as many people into the smallest place possible. And bs kills seem REALLY bs until you notice yourself getting them (I am referring to the odd ability of a waist-high gun to score frequent headshots).
Trashdragon, I tried a few FPS games on consoles but their low number of players are a complete turn-off, especially after 4 years of Cain server-only gaming.
Note: We still have a HQ server running, it just stays vacant alot.
Playing with 6 or so makes it a completely different experience from the TDM server.
Well, I finally made my back to the lair! I hope fortune has blessed everyone this new year! I've got some updates, dad (Todd98 )is over 60....yall send...
