It increases accuracy while making you a harder target to hit for most people. Sometimes if people get your pattern, they learn to just shoot straight down at your feet and when you go prone you get hit in the head :\.

And when you crouch, it allows my double tap Uzi to hit you between the eyes more quickly. I've already hit as you squeeze that trigger....
To answer your question, yes stance changes accuracy, but it still majorly depends on the individuals skill in real life.
