HC Knife fighting

The only times we've done the knife fights is late at night, when there aren't enough people to play a map. We ask the others if they'd like to knive fight, shotgun fight, pistol fight, etc., and meet in the middle so we don't have to spend the whole game looking for each other. With four players or less, it makes playing a little more exciting. I won't ask anymore.

Yeah Me and a bunch of other CLRs were playing a c4 fight on downpour but we didn't force the other players to do it. So while we were running around like idiots blowing up C4 some people were still just using a gun.

I always make sure to ask everyone if they are into the idea. Actually, most people are really into the idea. It always seems to be a fun, spontaneous atmosphere of, "cool, we did that and it was fun, what do you wanna do next?!". Always made me think of playing multiplayer splitscreen stuff with my neighbor.

I wait until everyone has agreed, though, and I *always* remind people not to insult or tease anyone who doesn't want to play. Depending on the moment, we'll either continue doing our stupid stuff (and usually get killed a lot by the people using normal guns ), or switch back to normal rules.

My standard issue comment is that it is a privately run server, with no mention about possible ___-only games, so if people come in and want to play the normal game, that overrides whatever we're doing. I tell them that from what I hear from you (Cain - the owner), you want as many people playing on the server as possible at all times, and if anyone leaves because of the knife-only or whatever, then that's unacceptable to me.

I love having fun, goofy stuff like knife-only rounds, but I remember that the main goal of your server is a large community for general gaming, not a specialized server for a few people. I hope I've taken your ideas the right way, and I hope not to get in trouble.

I ask occassionally but when I see someone else join, I justcontinue to kill. I don't ask them to join. They want to kill me with a gun...cool by me. Just makes me feel like a better player when I kill them anyway. Who says you can't bring a knife to a gun fight?! I do it all the time and I win for the most part.

What follows only MY opinion.

+1 For Fiery- this is the conduct we should all be carrying in the server and the right attitude.


Cain's point is one I agree with passionately, and many of you realize that I LOVE the HC server.

For those of you who have just taken the time to make statements about your own level of encouragement, just go back and watch T_Phantom's Knife Fight video in high definition so you can read the way we are treating people when they ignore our knife only request.

Some of you are not in the video, or even on the server that night. But in all honesty, I have seen many people contradict themselves on the server.
Since I'm a truth and fact person, I'll describe myself to be sure no one feels like I am singling them out:

I have in fact sworn on the server, I've lost my temper on people who make accusations or attempt to ruin our fun by stating we run a dirty server and no one should play, etc. I have jawed at people who bring politics and religion into our games. I've even made a few jokes that in retrospect I wonder if they belonged in the game.

But all in all, my entire existence in this community has been to participate in the games and enhance the experience of new people so that they may have a good time and enjoy their investment in the awesome games we play. For all of my weaknesses, this one thing is very important to me which is why I am speaking out like this.


SO-
On the topic of our servers, with COD4 HC as the focus, but the entire server population being considered, there are only 3 outcomes when we try to set up conditions and expect people to follow them via making insulting them or shouting at them- and only 1 of them has a positive outcome.

2 out of 3 choices means there is a 66.6% chance that they will have a bad time. Read on to see what I think the impact / consequences are.

Choice A. Ignore you- They play on to irritate you- and if you are playing to anger someone, you really arent having a good time despite how funny it may be. Fun for Fun is greater volume of happy than Fun to provoke. Please dont make a joke out of that statement- I am being very serious here.

IMPACT: History has shown that if players are not willing to ignore players choosing not to join in the knife only, pistol only, etc. it leads to more shouting and insulting and etc. This encourages non-CLRS ( I call them Guests or first/second/third timers b/c after 3 visits you are pretty much a regular) to emulate (or copy) your behavior. More yelling, additional insults, and at this point you are pretty much a freakin asshat.

Remember- we do not tolerate asshats.

Choice B. Leave- Which means if they log in, get yelled at, and leave, they will probably never come back.

IMPACT: If that happens, our total population declines and when this server closes (and trust me when you read this, hear my father voice. It will be closed, and there will be no arguements on that one because we arent going to pay for something we dont use- Cain cant afford it and neither can our community when it comes to paying for something that creates a negative image.

When this happens, we have fewer homes that we can call ours in servers.



That means that we are not upholding our desire to make our servers a place for people to come here and have a good time.

Choice C. They join in.The only positive, and it is an unknown positive at that, so I call it a partial positive.

IMPACT: Just because you join in on behavior, doesnt mean you have intention, need, or desire to act that way. Because they played knife only with us after we "encouraged" them, does that mean they had a good time?

We wont actually know that unless we get to know them.
So yes, they may have fun, they may like it- hell, I like it occasionally. But the fact here is that the only positive thing in the ENTIRE situation when it comes to trying to influence a setting that is non-configurable in the server is only "possible positive", not completely positive.

Closing:

It's one thing to act silly and have fun.
It's another thing to be a complete fun-buster and shout at people because they wont play your way.

name of these players (i think is just 1-2)? and name of the player that said it? because i never see a problem with "knife, pistol, sniper or what else u want".
if someone log in we told him what we are doing, if he want can join, if ot we start to normal mode.
