Ok.... lets start at the top...

1.) the Report a Jerk section is a great place for reporting people who violate the rules of the server when an admin isn't present.
2.) Us admins do have lives, we cannot be in the server's 24/7...
3.) You can generally get an Admin through steam. Go on and download it, it's free, and you can add me. {CLR}seiko.
4.) We enforce the rules in the server when we are on, And we can ban people even when they aren't in the server. All we need is the GUID, which you can provide in the Report a Jerk section...
5.) The rules are enforced. Just because you don't see us doing the work doesn't mean it isn't getting done.

Language

In all of the hours I have spent here I think I have seen less than 5 people banned for language yet bad language is used EVERY SINGLE GAME!

Can't you at least use a language filter like most site for the most offensive words?

The "F" word and the "N" would shouldn't be texted in the games. That should kick every time.

What is the purpose of claiming that it's not okay to use bad language when it's rarely enforced. I love this server and love playing the TDM, but the language is HORRIBLE and almost NOTHING is done about it.

Thanks for the report and the concern for our servers. I like to see people that take our principles seriously.

What you need to do is report the player in the Report a Jerk section. This allows us to either monitor reported players or outright ban them. We do not need to be on the server to ban people!!!

If you have a clear screenshot of the language with all of the players details, that player will never be seen again.

I realize that this does not solve the immediate problem when he is on, but I can guarantee you they will not be back.


We work hard to keep our game servers clean, but it is impossible to catch every idiot that comes on, spews filth, and is gone a few rounds later. But with your help and some patience we can make sure they don't come back

Even if you don't want to be too strick on language again just kick for the very offensive stuff. This guy would have been gone in less than 30 seconds with PB.

Here is a great example you may understand-

It has taken several days and a ton of work to try and track this person's behavior. However, with a report - this problem gets resolved much sooner.

I feel the same way about reporting that you do.
It drives me nuts. In fact you can probably find a post of me saying nearly what you are saying.

However, after being here for a while I realize that if I want this backyard to stay clean, I need to pitch in where I can and make this place fun- that means reporting asshats quickly.

Reporting also stops people from being booted who dont deserve it. When I used to play Tribes in my younger days, I was banned from so many servers based purely on my skills that it was very difficult to find a game. I had a high ping and I was amazing. It was simply a bad feeling and unfair. My friends and I would get togeather and spend 20 minutes looking for a server I wasnt banned from, and I was a legitimate player. I have no idea how to cheat and I dont understand the concept of wanting to either.

I say this because I was banned without reporting- there was no proof, and half of them were just irritated. I remember there was one server that the admin would shut it down if myself and my other pal didnt switch to his team. LITERALLY shut it down- and it was a very popular server out here in the west.

So in a nutshell, the rules protect you from both accusation and asshats.
They also differentiate us from Johnny Tantrum- the admin who just metes out punishment on whim.
We cant change the way we do things here, it's been more than a few years, and it has always been this way.

ive also seen lonewolf, and a couple others (cant remember their names), but he is a total asshat, and should be banned on sight, i have also seen him aimbot/wallhack in the HC server 5HS in like 5 seconds thru a wall in crash but dont have any video(curse xfire video glitches). so im thinking....

If I may chime in on this topic... I love playing at Cain's Lair... always lots of good competition. I totally agree with Cains rules. Once you allow profanities to creep into an online game it too often becomes a hater's chat room rather than a game site. The admins you have do a good job of policing the games, however, it seems very apparent to me that there are simply too few admins on Cains Lair. CLR players are good at reminding people when they slip up, but too often it is something like, "Watch your language please." Then this is repeated several times with no consequences of violating the rule. IMHO, if you have rules, you should enforce them... that necessitates having enforcers available. I know... I know... just because I don't see it doesn't necessarily mean nothing is happening. I read that above. However, when I see a player abuse a CLR (or others) for 30 or 40 minutes at a time or intentionally block stairs, doors, etc. and act the fool for round after round, well then, my friends, I know for sure that NOTHING is happening. Maybe SOMEDAY... but not today. I have left (as have others) when there were such people on the server and it was apparent there was no admin. Also, re: the suggestion that we should d/l Steam and look an admin up, I figure that if the CLR who is being abused can't reach an admin, I won't have any better luck. A week or two ago, I actually witnessed an encounter that was something like this:

CLR player: Watch your mouth please.
[Idiot -- who apparently knows or at least suspects that CLR Player is not an admin]: Why don't you go F*** yourself you N****** K***? (K*** = deragatory term for a Jew)

I was embarrassed for that CLR and I am sure that he/she found it frustrating to be subjected to that language for simply trying to remind people of the rules. However, it is apparently pretty well known among the hammerheads of the world that the admin ranks are pretty thin and that regardless of your behavior, your chances of actually getting kicked or banned are pretty slim at Cains Lair. Many when warned will apologize and attempt to comply, but many make NO effort to comply. What an absolute joy it would be to play at Cains Lair and see a CLR warn someone about language and then when that person tells CLR to go F*** themselves (as I have witnessed) the player simply disappears off the player list. Would that be such a bad thing?

There is a Cain's Lair community, and the suggestion for people to d/l steam and look us up was for everybody. CLR's and non-CLR's. As I know that there are several CLR's who don't have steam for one reason or another.

I thought it was just a thing where you could download games instead of buy them... apparently you can message people on it?

Yes, you can message people on steam. We even have a CLR community!

I'm a new admin, and the first thing I will tell you is that we dont just pull a switch, fire a gun, and ban someone. It's neither mechanically nor ethically set up that way. If you want to know why- see my post above.

Unless you have something functionally relevant to post in the Report a Jerk Section, it really doesnt make sense to voice your concerns. It's obvious that we would agree with you on what is not acceptable, so adding dialogue only makes it harder to seperate facts.

Please submit only relevant facts in regards to the situation at hand once and move on.
