agreement
there is enough good advice already, but I'll just agree with the Thompson or the Type 100. Put stopping power on those in HC and a round or two drops the target. For medium range I've been liking the Gewehr 43 (rifles class) with stopping power. It's got nice open sights and is quite accurate, and you can get it right away. Only problem with that is when folks come close it's tough because it's semi auto--switch to pistol and hope there's only one or two guys.
The big mgs are tough, as they are clunky and the spawn system often puts enemies close to or behind you. I've done alright with them, but have also done terribly...of course, I can say that for all of the guns.
Lastly, heed Rye's advice. Hug walls, stay low, and listen (he taught me to use caution while sparring with him [except with shotties ]). Don't walk down Main Street much. If you get hit from behind and it sounds like it was from a distance, run for cover first, then listen, wait...maybe peek back or just keep going and look for an unsuspecting kill!
