I wish I had the funds to buy an ATI card. I would love to know if that makes a difference.

If you have an older system, the CPU is likely your bottleneck. What CPU do you have?

I though this was an interesting article:

"Call of Duty: Black Ops launched to great fanfare yesterday, but, at least on the PC side of things, it hasn?t exactly been a flawless launch. Users are filling up message boards from here to somewhere else with complaints of all shapes and sizes, from stuttering frame rates to unplayably laggy multi-player sessions. And keep in mind that the game is based on the 11-year-old id Tech 3 (Quake 3) engine. Any computer released in the past, I don?t know, five years (being generous), should be able to run that thing flawlessly. Clearly something is amiss."

        Whole article here:

The single player runs fine on my Phenom 2 x4 955 and two 5850s, it runs at around 30-60 fps depending on what's going on. The multiplayer stays around 60 fps most of the time but I do get a LOT of lag on it.

I used to get around 80 - 100 fps in WaW just recently. Dont know whats up with this though.

I did notice that all the videos that Treyarch put out was with Console kiddies playing. The ones where they were doing all the explaining and narration. Dont think I ever saw a PC vid.

              Figures though.

It's sad really. We're almost to the point of having a generation of players that never played any games on PC.

This is ridiculous...at 33mbs, I shouldnt be lagging at yet...this is aggravating. Tired of paying for broken games. You dont buy a car if it has problems, or anything else for that matter. Utterly retarded.

                  Not that bad. Core 2 Duo E6600 OC'ed to 3GHz 4GB RAM.

I've read multiple things about bad default settings. CPU support set to single thread, GPU set to multithead. Here were some suggestions from "cravingtech". I have not tested this yet, but will try it at lunch time.

How to fix Call of Duty Black Ops multiplayer lag/stuttering

Try turning multithreaded support on the file called config_mp.cfg (located under your steam folder ? steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players) if you have multi-core CPU.
                  Change: seta r_multithreaded_device ?1″
Also the /r_multiGpu ? set to ?0″ if you are not running in SLI (if you only have 1 graphic card) and set to ?1″ if you are running in SLI mode.
Not sure these will have any effects though but use these network settings through the console:
                  cl_maxpackets 100
                  snaps 30
                  rate 3000
                  A change of Pace.

Exactly, my ping has been doing the same thing. And I just upgraded to a 6 core Phenom and two 6870s in crossfire...getting lag where I can't follow my target and the lan connection icon pops up on screen. This happened on the CLR east coast server last night a couple times. I'm hopeful they will figure it out soon.

That is the same CPU I have (mine is oced to 3.2), and I think it has become a bottleneck for me. I can't get above ~50 FPS in BFBC2, and I have a GTX275.
Also, I think that is actually listed as the minimum CPU for this game.

Even SP stutters like crazy on my rig. The new card helped that a little.

Well at least if my CPU is now the bottle neck, I've got a good new video card to go forward into a new build.

The thing I don't get is why there is a bottleneck at all, or why the system requirements are so high. I mean, come on, the graphics, the sounds, etc., are not that great.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
