Alright guys with dedicated servers out and from what im reading... Is this going to be run sort-of like xbox live, where there are 50million servers out there, each someones xbox(pc in this case) or something.
also why wont they make it so you can connect xbox live to your pc(play live thru ur pc)

In all seriousness..., they don't want the console players to see how they would really be owned in a FPS by PC players in the same game. The only way to not demoralize the console gamer community is to keep them separated.

It actualy was done three times if you also count Final Fantasy XI. I really don't know why they stoped doing it. It made sense before since console games couldn't be updated like PC games, but today console games get patches as fast as PC. Having cross-platform support for all those Games for Windows Live games would actualy make them worth buying.
Yes you were playing ShadowRun with console players, specially since ShadowRun was Vista only for no reason at all, which pretty much meant nobody on the PC really cared about it.

You had to have windows live gold account to do cross-platform.
Also, have you seen the aiming reticule that Shadowrun uses....looks like a quarter on your monitor. Spam fest to minimize the mouse accuracy advantage.

It also was done with Quake III Arena on the Sega Dreamcast. Dreamcast players were able to play with PC players
Sega of America has announced that it will release the new maps from the Dreamcast version of Quake III: Arena to PC players. The so-called Dreamcast Map Pack includes a collection of 23 maps from the Dreamcast version of the game, and it can be downloaded from Sega of America's official Web site. The pack also includes slightly altered versions of existing maps.
Additionally, the Dreamcast Map Pack will allow PC players to play in the new maps against Dreamcast players. The only criteria are that PC players must have a 1.16n or lower version of Quake III: Arena available and use the GameSpy 3D or PingTool utilities to browse the Sega Dreamcast servers.
Dreamcast
Quake III Arena was released for the Sega Dreamcast (ported by Raster Productions and released by Sega) in 2000 and featured 4 player online play versus Dreamcast and PC gamers. It is often considered one of the best PC to console ports of its time due to its smooth frame rate and online play.[17] There are still communities that play this version online on the remaining dedicated servers running patch version 1.16n and the required map pack.
Oh yeah I had forgotten Microsoft was actualy stupid enough to charge PC gamers to get all the online options. I didn't play Shadowrun much anyway it was boring as hell, but I do remember the crosshair being a quarter the size of the screen.
Still my point is that if they are going to add Live to a PC game and not include cross-platfrom play then it was completely pointless. Why do I want to see my console friends online if I can't play with them?
Not even going to mention the fact that you have to login everytime you start the game. Even worse if you bought a game like GTA IV on steam, you have to login to steam, then login to the rockstart network then after the game is running login to games for windows live. That's just ridiculous.

I ran a server for the Dreamcast version back in the day so here's my thoughts on the cross-platform play:
*In-game conditions were pretty even (i.e same game speed, same map pack) especially if you used the KB+M and Broadband Adapter for the Dreamcast. As far as I can recall (now almost 10 years ago...) the map pack graphics never seemed "dumbed" down on the PC.
*The Dreamcast did max out at 640x480 so obviously gaming PC's at the time could run higher resolutions and maintain higher fps. This was probably the biggest advantage of the PC version over the Dreamcast version in terms of gameplay and IMO still is when comparing current gaming platforms.
*From playing against both platforms the PC player was on top most of the time even if it was 3 DC to 1 PC. I would chalk this up to better hardware (higher resolution made a big difference) and more experience with the game (Dreamcast version came out almost a year later). I can say as Dreamcast player you were thrilled to even play Q3 and because it was such a quality port (even had some mods) it remained a great option for the frugal gamer considering gaming PC's at the time were 3x-4x the cost of the DC.
I always find it entertaining reading gaming PC vs. Console threads especially when there's no mention of the wallet when comparing the two platforms...
I've been Alpha and will be Beta testing the Delta Force game. It's been really getting good reviews! Definitely a good Battlefield feel to it like the...
