First time playing an RPG? Wow. I'm not even sure how to begin helping you with that, I've been playing the things forever.

As a rogue, you should try to put points into stuff like sneaking around, opening locks, and picking pockets, and take advantage of all the loot you can grab. In Dragon Age, you want gear that increases your attack and defense powers, and your stats like strength or dexterity. You want to focus on daggers for sneak attack (or other one-handed stabby-type weapons) and some sort of bow for distance attacks. You want light-weight equipment that doesn't make much noise or isn't so heavy it prevents you from sneaking around.

You can't hide the helmet if you're wearing one. Either go without, or deal until you find a better one or whatever else the game may have for headgear (circlet maybe? I'm only 3 hours in with a human warrior).

How many of us have this game? And what do you think?

It's spectacular so far. I'm almost stunned by just how good it is even in the early going, and even more so by the shear potential that still waits within the game.

And there's a good bit of humor which only makes it better--even just "talking" to my war dog, the big guy barks/whines/pants at all the perfect times, rolls around on his back and has his belly scratched, responds to random companion comments when they're talking to each other (also a source of hilarity), and can be sent out to fetch something he smells in a new area. He's a giant, happy puppy, and he's better than Dogmeat. Too bad he doesn't count as a "free" character slot; once I have more humanoids I'm going to have to replace him for the versatility factor. Poor mutt.

I picked thins one and Borderlands as a treat to myself yesterday. So far so good! The first thing I got a kick out of was that your first fight was with... wait for it.... GIANT RATS!!!! One of the characters even had a little wise guy comment about every adventure starting with rats.

Borderlands is still in the wrapper.

There are several starting zones depending on what race and even class you choose. So far I am enjoying this game and I am finally getting the hang of it. Though I am taking the easy way out and playing it in the lowest difficulty level

I got it and I have most of the recruit-able heroes too if I am not mistaken. I went Female City Elf and I love it. Working on making her into an Assassin/Rogue. Lots of stealth/critical damage and lockpicking. So much fun. I also have a base for from the DLC and the Golem in DLC.

I've got about 18 hours in, and I just feel like I'm scratching the surface. Every hour just raises this game up the list for the title of best RPG ever. I'm liking how they keep making fun of conventional RPG elements like fetch quests while simultaneously putting you through the same sort of quests, just in an ironic fashion.

I'm keeping Alistair in my party for the whole play-through. He's just too hilarious to leave out. I wish I could see some of the other characters I'm unlikely to leave in my party without another playthrough. I was planning on the other 5 origin stories, but stopping after each. I don't think I have 160 total hours for this one for two play-throughs.

I don't know about the other stories, but there are two walking dead men out there that I'm gunning for, and another thing about this game is just how much it makes the player want to care about the character story arcs.

Still going along and at least to the point now where I wish I could have more people in the party. I had to leave my faithful dog, Cuthbert, back at the inn. My free DLC was the armor (I get it for Mass Effect 2 also ) and the golem.

Borderlands is still in the wrapper.

Pay for some cash for more points and get the other DLC. Then you will have an old Warden base. That way when a random event comes along and you get a meteorite fragment, you'll know a place where it can be made into a shiny new sword.

The dog should really be a freebie slot. I can't give up the versatility of a humanoid to keep a dog around, but the dog is very, very cool.

I just got it the other day, and am liking it. I kind of avoid RPGs unless I have a chunk of time to kill (because if I have to take a break I sometimes forget where I'm at); however, I got this one because of the games out now it has some pretty great reviews, and it isn't MW2. At any rate, I'm glad that I got it and am looking forward to messing about some more, and trying out some other classes.

I agree with you on the dog slot, Rand. It's hard to give the poor thing the boot for someone else.

Obviously you haven't used the dog with max skills. That thing permanately will take out long range enemies such as Mages who are constantly casting AOE stuns/traps and disables on the party. He just dashes over there and tackles them and since mages have low armor and health, guess what? D-E-A-D DEAD! While you other heroes can concentrate on the other buggers that deal massive damage.

Rand, you should really try to use your puppy. He so cool. I use him a lot. Like way more than I thought I would. One person I haven't used so far is the rogue girl I pick up a tavern, near the beginning after your first ogre boss.

I'm using Leliana almost all the time, because she's the only one in my party except maybe the assassin who can pick locks, and I don't have much need for the assassin right now.

Maybe I should try to use the dog to fight a dragon.

I used Morrigan, Shale and Wynne. Morrigan and Wynne spellcombos ROCK. Almost perma stone or perma frozen. Occasional hexes, horrors and sleeps were needed in-between cooldowns. Took a little while though but worth it for the scale for making *cough* wont tell *cough*.
