    Good Co-Op game for kids.

I have been looking for a game that my son and I can play online or on a lan. I don't want him playing our current games at this point but I would like to play something with him. I'm downloading Descent 3 at the moment but I'm not sure how that will work out. Are there any other ones that are FPS like without blood and swearing?

Descent is the one game guaranteed to make me feel sick to my stomach in 30 seconds flat. So nauseating for some reason.

I think Nerf made some shooter games for the Wii. You may want to see if they or someone similar made something up for the PC. Maybe some of the first generation shooters that came along around the time of Doom and Duke Nukem are toned down, but most modern stuff jacks up the violence and language quotients. Even the all-time console classic Goldeneye could be too violent, but it's not like a blood bath or anything.

Lego Batman... awesome, spent many hours playing with my daughter. Not sure about LAN with it but it has co-op.

Well descent 3 isn't working out on my machine and it's possible that it's not compatible. I will need to look into this.

We played the whole Lego Star Wars series together but it was on the PS2. Ideally I would like to be able to game with him while I'm on the road but I wanted to start off with us being on our own machines.

        The search continues...

The origonal half life had a versus mode type and you could turn the blood off in that game(although it was still on the walls)

Great suggestion PJ! I think HL would be good.

My son is 8. I had let him try BF2 years ago for a short period but he then went to school and made machine gun noises which scared the crap out of his kindergarten teacher and my wife which led to having my wife give the stamp of approval on all of his games. He has played several hunting games and Torchlight with the blood off. Shooting at human figures will be a few years down the road I'm afraid and yesterday while trying to jump start the server I was showing him how to use C4 on buildings and stuff when the animated voice came on which used some colorful language so that is something else that will have to wait. This is why Descent came to mind, you are blowing up robots and there is no foul language.

I know I'm going to get tortured for this one. What about WoW? There are a lot of free realms out there. We found a really good one recently and started playing again.

I had thought about that but I'm afraid he will disappear for years like everyone else that gets that game does.

Set up a time limit, that's what we do. My 15 yro is obsessed with Adventure Quest. He even used his birthday money to pay for a years membership. He assumed that if he paid for it, we'd let him play all the time. He wasn't happy when he realized how wrong he was.

That's awesome. I use the Vista parental controls thing on my daughters computer... she can't be on it after 7:30 PM, only allowed on it up to 90 minutes per day, and there is only a handful of websites she is permitted to visit. Adding any additional websites to the safe list takes an Act of Congress.

I like the sounds of this.

I also will not allow internet access in his room until he is out of the house.

I don't have the parental controls because I want my kids to know that I do have that trust in them. My two older kids have facebook and myspace and for awhile I would monitor them, now I only check in once in awhile because they have both proved that they aren't going to abuse the privilege. I am very thankful that they are the way they are.
