    Super Meat Boy and VVVVVV

Do you like 2D side-scrolling platformers? Do you miss the days of yore when single player games were actually challenging? Well, if you answered yes to these questions you MUST, I repeat MUST, play these two games.

First off, Super Meat Boy. The game has over 300 levels. A level editor will be out soon, meaning custom levels as well. You can unlock a multitude of characters from other independent games. The game is challenging, but is set up so you learn as you go. There are plenty of achievements and extras to keep you buys for quite some time to come. It's recommended that you play this with a gamepad, preferably the Xbox 360 controller.

VVVVVV is another 2D platformer, but this one is more akin to a Commodore 64 game. The gimmick of this game is that the only control other than moving is inverting your gravity, basically, walk on the floor or the ceiling. You'll have to get over lots and lots of spikes and other obstacles in inventive ways using only this mechanic. The overall area of the game is set up like a Metroid or Castlevania game, allowing you to choose where to head to first. You can play the demo which includes two sections of the game at: Play VVVVVV Demo, a free online game on Kongregate

I think you mean Contra. That was the game that put the Konami code on the map.

I have beaten contra, with a friend, on an original nes console, not an emulator with saves, and no life cheat.
Took us quite a bit of practice, but the game is actually pretty short, until it loops.
We didnt get any killscreen or anything, but we went through once and a half or so. I was proud.

vvvvvv is very fun, I played a at a friends house, I really wish I got the indie pack it was in.

It's only $5 on it's own, and very much worth every penny.
