Yeah, the client and server files are separately. The server files are available at the minecraft site and the minecraft wiki. Dont need a powerful pc. Just the bandwidth.
I share an account with a friend, if someone ends up hosting a server I would love to help out. Every MP server I have found was already started up. I want to dig a deep mine and make a cool fort for us to stay in safely.
Im not a guru on the field of server hosting, but I could try hosting a temp one. But my wild guess is that my PC couldn't handle miore than 6 clients at a time.
There are no fees for hosting a sever, right?

Stupid question here. Is there anything to the game besides building stuff? I see the graphics and am not impressed at all. And a game that you just build art or whatnot doesn't seem appealing.
It's a survival game (that allows for a lot of creativity).
There is a day/night cycle. At night, spiders/skeletons/creepers come out and will attack you if you are out exposed. So you need to build some sort of protection first, and then you can explore and find/build fun things!
