I have it...
But I played Deus Ex 1 12 years ago, and was never able to keep my computer unformated long enough to beat it. Re: I kept getting bored of it.
So now I am going through it again. I will beat DX1 before I move onto DXHR

This game kicks all kinds of ass. It truly does FEEL like Deus Ex, and that is very high praise. I can't wait to get into more of the game and try different things.
This is rapidly turning into one of those games that every gamer must play. It's already the best game I've played since Bioshock and I'm only about 6 hours in. That includes: Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2, Portal, The Witcher 2, and Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas, all of which are superb.
The shear amount of things to do and ways to approach situations is impressive. I'm having a ton of fun sneaking around and getting into secret areas with my boosted jump legs and hacking. I'm only sorry I capped 2 guys in the prologue because now I can't get the achievement to not kill anyone, and my next playthrough is probably going to be far more brute-strength.
If the storyline holds up, I would expect this may be the best game since the original Deus Ex. It's just truly excellent so far.

Do i need to have played any of the the other previous Deus ex games? Im tempted to get this game but ive never played the others and dont know the storyline
You don't need to play the others to appreciate this one, but you MAY want to play the original Deus Ex first. If you are one who cares about graphics, definitely play that one first. Deus Ex 1 is going to look blocky as all get out but it's still the best (and my second favorite, after Master of Magic), game ever made for the PC. This is a prequel anyway, so you get a lot of the story here.
Dead--this one. The Witcher 2 will still be there later and those of us who played through it can discuss it, but this one is current.
I have discovered the first flaw of the game though: the boss fights just plain suck. Unlike everything else in the game where you have choice, you must kill the bosses, and they're an order of magnitude more difficult than anything else in the game, especially if you've gone for a stealth build.
This is a prequil to Deus Ex 1? How does that work? The tech in DX1 isn't half this advanced.

Storyline prequel, and you can always explain away some of the new augs by considering that they may well have been banned or limited to specific user groups (e.g. special forces). Something like the Typhoon aug is not meant for everyman use. And in this game all augs are mechanical, while in Deus Ex they basically rewrite your DNA.
I've got to say, I'm near the end of the game after exploring all the nooks and crannies and such, and going through the story and both doing what I do and seeing the cut scenes, Adam Jensen is the best protagonist I've seen in any game. It's like we're playing a slightly calmer Jack Bauer. He's right above Gordon Freeman and Commander Shepherd, and Sam Fischer wishes he were this awesome.

In HR, they discuss, and it seems to be a bit of the storyline, how they are advancing the tech of augments to the point of it being ingrained into human DNA. Something along those lines. The old games were awesome. IW was a great xbox game.
