TF2 stats don't bug me, since I only play the game for fun. But DOD:S and CSS....now that's a different story. For awhile I was in the top 100 on all my favorite servers, and lost it all to new people taking insane amounts

I've been on a server where you get 1 point every second or 2 that you heal somebody as a medic. I think it's up to the server admin, or it could have just been a mod they were running.

Like some people have said, it becomes annoying to see yourself gain 2 or 3 points per kill. So I'll run out there, kill 5 people, but then get killed by some new person and lose 50 points. Hmmm... gain about 20 points from 5 kills (4 point bonus for 5 kills) and lose 50 from that one death. 5 to 1 kill to death ratio and you are rewarded with LOSING points. Someone explain to me how that makes any damn sense?

I like playing on this server, but find other servers preferable when I just want to play for the sake of playing. The point system puts undue stress on my ego :P

I agree completely---it's come up a couple of times over the radio about the rather steep penalty a decently ranked player faces for getting killed by someone lower on the rankings. Earlier in the weekend, I had several instances where I had a pile of points on the leader board, wasn't last and had a favorable kill ratio, but wound up losing several hundred points due to that 50-point loss rule.

I still absolutely love having the stats compiled---hooray for 1,000 headshots recently!---but golly, it can be annoying (or worse) to know that you've got to run something like a 4:1 average ratio to stay even. One can always hope for more targets.

I've played medic when needed lately, and unfortunately, i don't pay much attention to the stats. I heal, try to keep them alive, uber when can, move along. If only 1 healer, I'll pop to medic, that simple. Want more medics, here i come. I'm easy. Although I DO wish Pyro's or Heavy's would do more spy checks. I got murdered last night. (I'll even use my shotty on Soldier to check incoming people)

When I'm Pyro, I'll rush the other team, set 5-6 on fire and usually die.
Did i get a kill? Maybe. Might get an assist if someone followed me, or they don't get healed in time. But mostly I've caused them to run back to momma to get the fire put out and their health back, which delays the advance or defense.

Win Win in my book. So, I have a negative K/D, not a big deal to me. Hasn't been for oh so long.

Yes, It's fun to see where you rank. It is an ego bomb when you kill someone and get 2-3 points, and they kill you for 47 points.. lol Spy's especially love to knife medics. So we get a lot of abuse there.

I don't know exactly how hlxstats work, but one system I've seen work with a lot of success is just flat rate. You kill someone you get x amount of points, same thing if you're killed. Then assists and caps are separate.

I still think it's cool that the lair got stats, and I think people are having the same amount of fun as before. Hopefully you don't get the wrong idea about our whining...because I think most of it is just mild frustration with a silly algorithm.

I agree with characterizing this as "mild frustration" as opposed to anything else. I started the evening around 122 and finished, according to the stats page, at 138. This is despite a pile of kills and wins, largely due to several 40-odd point losses as well as some random dominations.

It's simply frustrating to have an evening's work erased in a single kill by an unranked player. The answer of course is, "Work harder", but that's hard to do when your kills come one at a time.

I love to do this too. I usually have a negative kill death percentage, when I play Pyro, because I do this.

I don't mind that new players get a "bonus" for killing players with high points...as I don't really care about my stats. I love looking at them but I don't live by them. I mostly play the same way Dead_and_Gone plays...rush in and torch as many enemies as I can before I die...hopefully kill some in the process...definitely make them run for momma so the team can advance a bit.

I do think there's a definable "waiting period" where new players have to have x number of kills before the full formula is applied to their stats so that peeps who just bounce from server to server and never really come back don't penalize the regulars. Could be wrong...just guessing from other servers I've been on where hlx said I have to have "50 kills before scoring regular points".

Anway...love the stats...love playing here (as always). Keep it up!

OK I tweaked the setting so the top player only loses 1/4 of his points to a lower ranked player...

Let's try that for a while.

There are few things to do in this game more fun than setting 6+ people on fire at the same time. The best part is you know what their chat is like based on when it happens to your team: "Blow me out!" "Heal me!!!" "Help!" "Ouch."

Even better--the late death messages from those who couldn't save themselves in time.

Thanks Cain. I was trying to make progress to break the top 10 last night, and for the life of me I was stuck at high 26k's. I would have a few good rounds and get to 26,900. Then have a few deaths then back down to ~26,600. So frustrating to see multiple rounds of work disappear in one.

Delivering bacon goodness one round at a time.

Yeah three players run for the same medic pack and only one is going to make it. I wonder what the other two are saying.
