I'm pretty sure most people here remember unlocking pipes etc on cards like the Nvidia 6800. But now people are unlocking extra cores on the new Phenom 2 X3's.

Most however are binned because the extra core is indeed useless. However it could get interesting if AMD decide to shift the X4 numbers via the X3 label.
