Getting a video signal to play on a TV.

I'm trying to get a TV signal to play on my sons monitor. The signal would com from a Satellite receiver. Do I need some kind of TV tuner?

    Here are the specs

    HP m9426f
    Core 2 Quad Q6600
    8 GB DDR2
    640 GB HDD
ATI HD 3650 Graphic card with 512 MB
    Vista Home Premium 64

If your monitor has RCA or S-vid input then it would work. If not then yes you would have to run it through the computer and yes you would have to have a tuner.

    I think thats right.

Some of the set top boxes have S-video, HDMI, DVI or even SVGA ports on em. If your monitor supports any of those then your good to go. Do you have the model number of the sat box?

I don't have the receiver yet so I'm not sure of the number. I am thinking of getting a dual model that will be in my Stepdaughters room and I will run a line to my sons room. This is the setup we have for the dining room and the master bedroom. I was hoping to be able play that on his current monitor instead of getting another TV. I just checked and there are no ports on the monitor or the PC.

The receiver will only have HDMI only if it is high definition.

If the receiver has HDMI, then you should be able to use an HDMI to DVI cable. Otherwise, you would probably need a TV tuner.
