Hah, and you all thought socket 939 was dead ??

Meet the soon to be released Asrock 939A785 sporting the AMD785 chipset (onboard ATI4200HD GPU).

    Wow .. just ... WOW !

AMD stopped making socket 939 chips about 1.5 years ago, so apparently there are a lot of them around for Asrock to be offering a new board for them. Poor Ruthlesskilla was shopping for one just last week in fact.

I just picked up an AMD chip yesterday (albeit an AM2 chip) for $25, so its too bad this wasn't an option instead of socket 939.

WT, not to burst your bubble, but Asrock has been getting bad reviews as of late. It wasnt this chipset but the newer ones. Reviews were on Newegg.

I wouldn't follow the reviews to closely on newegg Cobalt. There is a good number of people that claim they are "Tech Level: high " under their name and their post clearly show they dont know what they are talking about, claiming product ABC sucks bad but it is the user who is at fault, or give a one egg for something they are nick and picking a cosmetic issue

I'm with Caddy on this one. Asrock gets bad reviews because they had bad boards that were very budget oriented compared to a top tier vendor like Asus or Gigabyte (and no, Asrock is not the same as Asus - they are a lower subsidiary to Asus producing 'value' boards that rarely share components from one line to the other).
If you say that Asrock is getting bad reviews on the 'Egg, I would challenge that assessment overall with great reviews on the Asrock X58 lineup of boards.

There are no reviews of this new 939 board, as it hasn't been released yet ! Also, there are no guarantees it will even be released in the US ! Its simply another oddity from Asrock that fits a weird niche, and that's why I like them so much.

Case in point: I have an Asrock SATAII 939 board. Worthless board you might say. OK, here's the real trick. It offers the following:

        1) Upgradable CPU support via a riser card (S939 to socket AM2 upgrades).
        2) AGP/PCIe 16x video slots. Yep, it has an AGP 8x slot with a PCIe 16x slot aside of that.
        3) DDR1 native support on the 939 side, but when using the AM2 riser card, that offers DDR2 support via 4 slots on the card.

I'm still using that board on my workbench. It has an AMD 5000+ Black Edition running at 3.1ghz, with a 7950GX2 card and DDR2 RAM, and it runs any game that I play currently.

If you can find any mainboard out there that offers these three upgrades on it, you would call it the best hardware purchase you've ever made. I know I would, and I'll go on record as saying this was my favorite board of all time, dating back to the Abit BH-6 days.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
