    Negative effects of pausing Bluray?

Well we got the PS3 back from Sony - and the blue ray works again ....

For how long I don't know.

Anyway, while I tossed in Star Trek (I bought it nearly a month ago argh) my wife is making popcorn. I have it paused. Is this safe? I heard something one time that pausing DVD's is bad. If I press the stop button, I then have to wait like 5 minutes for it to unload then load up again. That can get annoying.

So, is it okay to pause a blue ray for X amount of minutes?

Perfectly safe. If it's anything like my Sony BDP-S350 then the laser and drive will shut down after a few minutes of being paused, only to start up again once you resume playback.

Even if none of the above happens i doubt no serious harm will happen to either the disc or PS3.

Ps does it really take 5mins? The longest bootup/load time i've had with my player is around 20 seconds.

Exactly. It's fine and this is exactly the reason you notice a few seconds wait in it starting back up. It's has to spin the drive back up and reposition the head.

Well what are the odds, I have that Blu ray player too lol I originally almost bought BDP-S560 for the WiFi feature but I didnt feel like setting up the router and the WPA for this thing. Then I saw the BDP-S550 but it wasnt worth it for my needs over the S350. Anyway sorry for going off topic.

Thanks. Sometimes our movies take like 5 minutes to load on the screen. Is this a fault of the hdmi cable? The cable is a cheap one from Dynex

I don't know if some idiotic salemans man has told you that, but no a cable cannot alter the load times of a disk.

The reason the disks take a while to load is because of the Java based menus. Some players load the menus quicker than others. Simple as that.

If this is on the PS3 then 5min is a really long time and not the norm for the PS3. Think the average load time on my PS3 (60GB vr) is around 25-30seconds. This of course only counts the load time once the movie is selected in the XMB not how long it takes the PS3 to power on then load the movie.

My guess something else is going on to cause the long load times since the PS3 is still one of the fastest BD players out on the market.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
