Time for me to pick it apart.

    1. Get a lower powered PSU. What are you planning on running from it? A server farm?

    2. Never been a fan of LiteOn. Every LiteOn drive i've had has died sooner rather than later. Pioneer is my brand of choice.

    3. If the 1tb HDD is for storage buy a WD Green Drive. No point in getting a fast/hot drive just to read/write mp3s and photos and videos.

    4. Intel SSD's. While they're the 'best' you pay quite a lot extra for negligable increases. I'm talking about increases that can only be seen/noticed by artificial benchmarks here.

    5. If you're buying a graphics card now, buy ATI. That or wait and see what Fermi brings.

Will you be able to run all the fans from that controller? How many are in the case? Looks like 8.

      I disagree completely.
I have the 2GB version of that card and it was worth every penny.

I have a brother who built a similar system to mine, with a different motherboard (he went eVGA) and he put a competitive ATI card into his and it just doesnt compare.

Just opinions, like Apple or Windows....

Ati's newest cards are way ahead of Nvidia. Nvidia's competition to the 5850 and 5870 range is Fermi.... which isn't out yet. The 5870 can also be had for the same price as a GTX285. Mainly because Nvidia has EOL pretty much the entire GTX2XX range due to their production costs/failure rate and this in turn has slowly bumped their retail prices.

I'm with Juneau on 3&5. The Green drives are all I buy, they're quiet and work just as well as any other I've ever had. I have no real brand alliances, so ATI I really do believe is better than NVIDIA, at least for now. I only have the 4890, and I can run all my games just fine. I don't find it justified to pay $50-100 more for NVIDIA. But it's your build!

And damn your Euros!!!! I hated visiting Europe just for that one reason, my American Dollars were less than the Euro. (Back then though it was only about $1 to 1.24 E)

Agree with Juneau .. that 1000w PSU is way overkill. Two things that floored me are the higher than expected price of the SSD (I swear I saw them for $250 for that model) and the GTX285 STILL at $400 !! I paid $350 for my 280 last year, so I'm kinda shocked it hasn't dropped at least $50 by now.

Sooo, where's the case at ? Have Duke pick out a pink one for ya !

Minerva doesn't strike me as the pink case type but I also wouldn't expect her to pick the one she did so what do I know. Anyway, I could see her gaming with a fine tuned rig in this sexy and classy case.

Nothing wrong with more power. Especially as you never know how long one may keep the supply around and what other power-hungry devices may make their way into the system.

Agree on the WD green drives and the ATI card.

By the time Minerva needs 1000W's there will be a whole new ATX connection.

Minerva picked her new case by copying off of me!

I do remember her being quite impresed with your case in the picture thread.

                        Cute PC you have there....

Currently, I would buy an ATI Card instead. Or wait for the new Nvidia ones to arrive.

I have OCed my CPU to 3,2 with stock cooling and undervolting. Easy!

Win7 Home Premium should be enough.

And for the SDD, get the tray version. It's much cheaper.
                              Also make sure to:
                              a) flash the firmware directly
                              b) enable "AHCI" in the bios before installing the OS
                              c) use the intel chipset drivers from their homepage for maximum peformance

You can invite me to a cafe con leche from the money saved...

MInerva congrats. The system looks great. And like someones said already. If u on a hurry i would get ATI 5870 instead GTX285 any day, And i am NV fan boy. I have done 3 setups last 2 months with i7 920 and H50 and reaching stable 3.6GHz is no problem at all with them , as long the case have good air flow. And its easy as piece of cake
