Windows is being slow....

well title says it all everything i do takes forever, 32 seconds to open firefox, takes 3-4 minutes on the welcome screen ect. dont know whats wrong im fully updated and yes im running vista

any and all help appreciated

This happened to my wife and it turned out to be a HUGE windows update. Didn't you just reinstall?

yes but unfortunately im dealing with bigger problems..... ill detail them if i cant figure out whats wrong

Machine slowdowns are usually cause by something else running or trying to run. Take a look at the Task Manager to see if anything is hitting a constant or close to 100%.

Ps. Does it continue to stay like this after it's been left 20mins after boot? Or get better and speed up again?

I had an issue with Vista upon boot it would take forever to allow user input. Starting taskmgr.exe would then give me the ability to do things. turns out it was the stupid java update client
