New VISIO All in One computer

    I saw this

So what do you think of these new "All in One" type computers will be like, are they worth getting? I heard VISIO is pretty new in making computers, and starting with these ALL IN ONEs.

    Feedback?

All In ones ??? Stay far away from them. Not enough upgradeability built in, and the tight case means components heat up and fail prematurely. That snazzy 1TB hard drive will live its shortened life running at much higher temps than it wanted to simply because there isn't any ventilation built into the case.

Google 'HP Slimline' and see what you find. I currently have a Slimline I am trying to cool down before returning it to a customer ... its a known issue with the line.

Add to that the fact that its from a new name in the biz, known for their displays but outsourcing from God knows where for the rest of the parts. They buy based on price alone, not quality. It's like buying a new car from a company just getting into the car biz .. ohh, like Daewoo or Hugo. How'd that pan out for both companies ?

Under no circumstances could I recommend an All In One like what you picked out. Even from HP, I would still not be in favor of this, altho it does offer an upgradable graphics slot:

There are plenty of components in a build that can survive higher temps, but the two most critical to a PC functioning are the ones to worry about here: the hard drive and the GPU.

Hard drives like to be cooler than 40c, and that Slimline that I mentioned is running its drive at 50c. If that fails and you have no backups, there goes your years of accumulated 'stuff'. Not a good scenario.

The GPU failures have been legendary, what with the infamous Nvidia 8800 failures that plague every manufacturer of that card series. At least that is replaceable, unlike the data on your failed drive.

It's been my experience that the oven trick is a temporary fix, and at best you will gain 6 months of use from the card. They can be re-baked, but they will last an even shorter time after subsequent bakings.

Ebay is loaded with 8800 cards that are either failing (and the seller doesn't know about the bake process) or already baked and flipped by a buyer for a tidy profit (altho, again, I stress that the cards will fail again depending on how hard you stress them).
