    Memory troubles...

    Hi guys and gals!

Been gaming on my free time lately and my computer has been generating the blue screen of death or various memory errors within games lately. So, I ran a memory diagnostics test (MemTest86) to look for errors, and to my dismay a list of 58 errors appeared.

And I will be the first to admit that I am extremely new to determining the cause of these problems and solving them. With my "college kid" budget, I'd rather not just buy new RAM unless I knew that would solve the problem.

In short, does anyone have any suggestions that are commonly used to solve these problems? I forget exactly what brand of RAM I have (and I can't seem to find it! ) but I know I've got 2GB of DDR-2. Perhaps I can look a bit more tomorrow after work and see if I can't find specifics.

BSOD + Memetest Errors = Buy new RAM.

One thing to check though. Make sure it's running at it's correct voltage.

If thou has errors thou must get new RAM.

But don't fret cuz RAM is hella cheap right now. Get this if you can - its what I have: 25 bucks after the rebate too.

This will help you find out which RAM you're using.

            Thanks guys!!

I've got two 1GB sticks of Corsair on the way. I would've been fiddling with this problem for days before I convinced myself to replace them.

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone.

Dont ever assume the ram is just bad.....

Check your timings and check your voltages.

Sometimes a small voltage increase or loosening of timings will save you from wasting money on new ram.

Just watch I had a client with the same issues as you.
I had to boot into an XP CD and replace some core files that where crashing the pc cos they got corrupted.

I'm not insane. I'm just overwhelming!

Haha, yeah, everything seemed right from what I could tell. I didn't play around with the voltage or timings, but nothing looked out of place. At the very least, I'll have a healthy pair of RAM sticks if the RAM turns out not to be the problem.

I am seriously hoping this is not the issue with me. Hopefully the RAM will come Thursday or Friday and that way I can have this weekend to really check everything out and hopefully fix this.

If I get confused/lost/unsure...I will definitely ask for the advice of the knowledgeable folks here! Thanks for the help thus far, everyone. I'll be sure to update with either a "it's fixed!" or "halp me!" hopefully by late Sunday.

I have two stick of that corsair RAM and it's great but if you change the setting be sure to set the voltage correctly. I got into a situation when I had to reset the CMOS to get it to boot.

Hope it works out for you.

I just got my 2x1 GB sticks today. Installed them and had a little scare lol

I must have bumped the main psu connector on the mobo because the darn PC wouldn't turn on at all. I only had to push the connector in...whew....sweat it a little!

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
