Interesting. I did not think this would happen. And it does bother me because most of my games are on Steam. Will see how this plays out, because there would be a possibility I would cancel my Origin PO and get it on Steam.
I think it'd still be great to have on Steam, for those of us who have a decent amount of games on there, but it really is up to EA.
BF3 might be a good way to get enough people onto the platform to build its client much like Valve and Counterstrike (and other of their games) infused more life into Steam.
The question is how annoying will it to be if you have to open steam, then it opens Origin, then battle log.. then hit log on.
Would not surprise me one bit. If the rumor of EA banning anyone caught playing on a 128 server is true, that adds yet another level of complexity to the mix.
EA should not have a leg to stand on at this point, as Steam is extremely profitable for Valve. Six years ago, nobody could imagine how Valve would be anything other than a game developer, but they saw a huge niche and filled it well, something that both MS and EA couldn't do properly.

Too late. I bought it on Origin. And honestly? I like this battle log/battle com browser system. Origin itself just sits in the background.... Provided it isn't doing anything malicious, meh. I hate to say it, but I am getting that "care free" attitude.
That said, I would have preferred it on STEAM.

And here is where I start to worry about things. What is the definition of 'malicious' as to how it interacts with your system ? We have discussed the in-game advertising way back when BF2 came out, and there are a large number of gamers who don't mind that EA/Origin have most of their personal data at hand.
If you read Monday's 'USA Today', Barnes & Nobles took out a full page ad explaining their purchasing of the intellectual property of Border's now defunct B&M store. They initially were not planning on offering an 'opt-out' to allow customers to scrub their data and purchasing history from transferring to B&N, yet the backlash was so great that they had to instead offer the opt out to appease the people who felt this was a breach of their contract with Borders.
Schultzy, I would think a bit more about this before offering up too much personal information, but again, its how EA is playing their game with you as a consumer, not how you are playing their game as a customer.
A bit off topic, and I don't want to derail this thread, but I just wanted to offer up my opinion on how I feel that younger gamers don't care who does what with their personal information anymore.

I understand exactly where you are coming from, and what you mean by this post. But on the other side of the coin, I've fought and resisted so much of this kind of shit that I am just kind of brow beaten now. They don't really give you much of an option when they require one thing to be ran to run another thing. From what I understand, even the consoles are requiring something similar for their versions of the game as well...
Shitty part is, we either accept it or not play the game. The game has enough hype that enough people are simply not going to care and push through anyways regardless of the information they have to forfeit to play said precious gem. As long as I can continue to generate my hex passwords and can not have to give more information, I'll be OK. But then again... "As long as..." is how it all started years ago. I could almost put a date on it, but I could certainly put a year on when we were starting to require to input some of the information we (people using Origin/Steam/ETC) have provided for the sake of playing games.

The problem is that if you buy the game on Steam then Steam wants you to buy the DLC on Steam as well, and EA wants to be able to sell you the DLC no matter if you bought the base game on Steam or Origin.
Clearly nothing definitive, but hope for those that like Steam. Would be interesting to see if Origin is still required.
