Remember it is rarely the "ends" of the connection, you or me... there will be at least 10-20 routers between you and me and any single one of them can cause you lag, dropped packets, etc.Comment

Never though I would say that
I cant believe the difference it makes by disabling.... "Real Time Scanning"
This is the only game I do it for ..............but WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT MAKES !!
Real Time Scanning ON = Unplayable ( especially with AirStrike as we know )
Real Time Scanning OFF = All settings kicked up to HIGH !! Smooth as silk.
Just thought, it may be something you want to check into.

Does it really make that big of a difference? Depending on what you are using for a firewall service, Anti-Virus may not be necessary.
I have a combination of different security layers that have contributed to a poor connection.
What I instituted was a protocol setting that I can enable that will refuse all inbound traffic except that which is related to the COD4 client.
You can also enable the client to automatically shut down with my firewall if it goes outside the norm {trying to access other programs}.
This does require some work though, as there will be a request to validate Punk Buster that, if un-answered, will get you kicked from the server.
Its a personal situation, so I cant advise you from my position, however, if you are concerned about security, narrow the pipe and refuse requests for service outside the the clients with COD4 to get the best results.Comment

and still...

The problem with the HQ server is it does not run on a box with as much horsepower as the .2 box has, and it is also running a TF2 server....
I have noticed it is not as smooth as the TDM server on the .2 box.Comment
