I thought I'd share this with Cobalt, as he and I have some fondness for the weapon in BOPs.
Actually this is an M70, my old buddy, basically a similar design but with 7.62 x 39 ammo instead of the 5.56...which is good for me because I've seen the cheap Russian 5.56 ammo be pretty quirky, whereas I've not had a prob with the 7.62. Anyway, Cobalt, if you're still looking for a gun to plink around with, check on some of these if they have them in your area: they are quite fun and about the cheapest thing to shoot besides a .22 these days.

I got mine a few years back for around 600. I'm not sure of the price now, but that should be a ballpark. It's a bit for an AK variant, but that's just the way it goes these days. It comes from Century Arms...imports are getting harder to find, more pricey, and older...so manufacturers like these guys have the general market for such items. Mine is very solidly built, though one fellow I know says Century has put out some shoddy products in the past. I was fortunate enough to be able to check it out at the shop where I bought it. I'm rather fond of the 7.62 as well.
Good balistics, better than most assualt rounds IMO.
