Win 7 - its official, soooo .. are you planning on upgrading ?

Who is planning on running the newest Microsoft OS and what are your reasons ?

I'm sticking with Vista Ultimate for now. Like a wise man once said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'll hold onto my free copies and wait for a worthwhile reason to perform the upgrade. Also, going from 32 bit to 64 bit means a clean install, and that will take HOURS to back up all of my stuff.

Yep, its newer, therefore it must be better ! Right ?

Nope, no reason to when <insert your OS here> is fine.

Won't be upgrading my laptop.... I'm running Fedora (and XP for games ) but when I actually get around to building my gaming rig I might take a look at it.

Once I get my hands on 2 copies and some free time I'll be upgrading both my desktops, don't run my laptop with enough frequency to feel the need to pay to upgrade from Vista.

I am running it on my office computer and will be running it on my home computer as soon as I have time to reinstall my programs.
          I like it a lot.

About the same boat as you, WalkinTarget. I have Vista now, haven't had a problem yet with it, and do not feel like spending a day off backing up files, finding registration codes, passwords, etc. I used to get all hyped about new OSs (God knows why)...now I'm content waiting until my next build, which could be a while.

Yes. I took advantage of the $49.00 upgrade offer and I will be putting it on my laptop just to try something new.

I'm going to upgrade my laptop, but I'll leave my desktop(gaming) machine at XP Pro until I do another hardware refresh

All of the bad press that Vista picked up seemed to be early on, before driver bugs and network issues were fixed with the SP1 update.
I was fortunate enough to have built a high end rig that ran it just fine prior to SP1.

You have to think that people didn't want to pay MORE for a new Vista PC than they had paid for a similar XP PC years earlier. If you bought a new Win XP PC for $600, then your new Vista PC should cost $500 or lower. Not true at all ... in fact with Vista's elevated system requirements you should be paying MORE, but nobody who isn't a PC hardware geek got that memo.

There isn't anything I have seen that compels me to upgrade. I've run the RC build for a bit, but just didn't think it was worth the time to blow away a functional OS just to be hip and up to date (its an illness Mac owners have all the time )

+1, but replace laptop with desktop. It's apparently in the mail, but Amazon didn't make the guarantee to have it here on release.

Oh, and here's another reason to give it a try: built-in 64bit support. Huzzah for recognizing all 4 gigs of ram.

I was amazed at how much faster Office loaded under Win7.

I'm amazed at how much faster i can alt-tab in and out of a game. XP used to be fine when atl-tab'n out but back in used to take me around 5seconds of black screen before i got back in. Now it's just as fast as flicking through explorer windows.

Win7 is what Vista should have been, and it only cost me ?45 for the full version.

I'll wait until they release the first service pack... then will consider the upgrade. Never would install a new OS otherwise.

But I already have that with Vista x64 Ultimate...

As I have 6 GB of ram I had to upgrade to a 64Bit OS.
I would still use XP if my hardware was older.

Got Win7 Premium for 45 ?. They are even giving it away to students here for 35 ?. In general it seems like MS is trying badly to prevent users and offices to switch to Linux distributions.
